The NSFBF provides financial assistance to active Nova Scotia Firefighters and their families during times of acute crisis, such as sudden illness or injury in the line of duty.

Applications for funding go through department chiefs. The identities of recipients are kept strictly confidential. Please visit our Apply page for more information or contact your fire department chief.

The NSFBF provides assistance under three core programs:

• Immediate Need: Rapid assistance for sudden illness, injury in the line of duty, or unexpected emergencies.
• Ongoing Need: Continued support for long-term recovery, rehabilitation, and sustaining families during extended crises.
• Extraordinary Need: Specialized assistance for unique or catastrophic circumstances that fall outside standard criteria.

No. The NSFBF receives no government funding and relies solely on donations from businesses and the public. We are entirely staffed by volunteers from all over the province.
